Who we work with

# Couples Therapy in Washington, DC

Two demanding careers, one relationship running on the leftovers. Or twenty good years and a distance neither of you can date the start of. Or one conversation — money, sex, the future — that you've learned to have badly or not at all.

Couples come to us in every configuration and every stage. What they share is the decision to stop letting the pattern drive.

## What couples bring

- The same argument with interchangeable topics
- Distance, parallel lives, the roommate feeling
- Desire differences and intimacy that went quiet
- Rebuilding after betrayal
- Deciding-something-big: marriage, kids, moves, endings
- Communication that turns technical topics radioactive

## How we work with couples

The structure is Gottman Method — four decades of research on what functioning couples actually do differently. We map how you fight and how you repair, where contempt or stonewalling has crept in, and rebuild the friendship and trust systems the relationship runs on.

Doctorate-level sex therapy is in the room. Desire and sex can be discussed as directly as finances — clinically, comfortably, and without euphemism.

Expect structure. Sessions have direction, and there's work between them.

## Practical details

Couples sessions are 55 minutes at $215, [sliding scale](/rates) $150–194. In person at [One Franklin Square](/therapy-office-washington-dc) or via [telehealth](/online-therapy-dc) across DC — including split-location sessions when one of you is traveling. FAQ

## Common questions

### One of us is more invested in therapy than the other. Normal?

Completely. One willing partner and one skeptical partner is the most common starting configuration. Skepticism is workable; we ask only for showing up.

### Is it too late for us?

We can't promise outcomes — no honest clinician can. We can say that couples routinely arrive certain they're done and discover the pattern, not the partnership, was the problem. An assessment gives you real information either way.

### Do you see couples where sex is the main issue?

Yes — it's a specialty of the practice, not an awkward add-on. See the sex therapy page for how that work looks.
