Sex Therapy in Washington, DC
Sex is one of the most consequential and least discussed parts of adult life. When something is off — desire that has gone quiet, intimacy that feels like performance, a disconnect you can't name — it rarely stays contained to the bedroom. It shapes confidence, closeness, and how at home you feel in your own life.
Cura Tempos is built around doctorate-level sex therapy. Dr. William McVey holds a PhD in Clinical Sexology alongside his counseling license, and has spent thirteen years helping individuals and couples talk about what usually goes unsaid — precisely, without embarrassment, and with a clear direction.
What sex therapy actually is
Sex therapy is talk therapy. There is no physical examination and no physical contact — ever. It is a structured, evidence-based conversation with a clinician trained to understand sexuality as a system worth taking seriously — clinically, and without embarrassment.
Sessions look at the whole picture — health, history, relationships, stress, identity — because sexual concerns are almost never only sexual. The work is practical. You leave with language, understanding, and specific things to try.
Concerns we commonly work with
- Desire differences between partners
- Loss of interest, arousal, or pleasure
- Erectile and performance concerns
- Difficulty with orgasm
- Pain or anxiety connected to sex
- Rebuilding intimacy after betrayal or distance
- Sexuality, identity, and coming out at any age
- Sex and intimacy after trauma
How the work unfolds
We begin with a thorough understanding of what's happening and what you want to be different. From there the work may draw on cognitive and behavioral tools, EMDR where trauma is part of the story, and Gottman Method approaches when both partners are in the room.
Some people come alone; some come as a couple. Both are welcome, and we'll recommend the format that serves your goals.
